Dickinson County Sheriff's Office Warns of New Jury Duty Scam

(Spirit Lake)--The Dickinson County Sheriff’s Office has issued a new alert for the jury duty scam.

According to a Facebook post, the Sheriff’s Office has received reports of someone calling and claiming to be a Deputy Sheriff. The fake Deputy says that the person has failed to report for jury duty and arrest warrants have been issued. The fake Deputy then claims you can take care of the warrant by paying him.

The Sheriff’s Office says this is not their practice and they do not take bond money over the phone.

Officials remind residents to never provide money, gift cards, financial information, or personal information to someone because they claim to be in law enforcement or other type of official.

If you’re suspicious, hang up and call 712-336-2525.

Scammers can make the caller ID display the official Sheriff’s Office phone number.  Don’t assume a call is legitimate just because the number is familiar
