(Estherville)--Fall fike netting is underway in northwest Iowa. Andrew Carlson, Fisheries Biologist with the Iowa DNR Office in Spirit Lake, says fike netting is one of the ways they keep track of fish populations.
Carlson says fike netting is part of a comprehensive survey process.
He says the fike nets are able to capture very small fish.
He says in addition to fish populations, they also gather additional information.
The lakes being used for this year’s survey are Big Spirit Lake in Dickinson County, Lost Island Lake in Palo Alto County, High Lake in Emmet County. Scharnberg Lake in Clay County, and Dogwood Creek and Mill Creek Lakes in O’Brien County.
