(Estherville)--An Estherville teen escaped serious injury in an accident involving a moped and a pickup Friday evening in Estherville.
The Estherville Police Department says the accident occurred around 5:30 pm at the intersection of 12th Avenue North and North 8th St. According to the accident report, a 14-year-old juvenile male was driving a moped eastbound on 12th Avenue North and turned left on North 8th St. At the same time, a 2001 Ford F-150 driven by 56-year-old Chad Reiter of Estherville was southbound on North 8th St. and moved over the center line to avoid a parked vehicle. The driver of the moped became distracted by children playing in Lincoln Park and struck the rear driver side of the pickup. The driver of the pickup stopped immediately and pedestrians began helping the juvenile male.
The juvenile male was taken by private vehicle to Avera Holy Family Hospital for evaluation.
Reiter was cited for failure to provide proof of financial liability at an accident.
