
(Spencer)--One of the highlights of the opening weekend of the Clay County Fair is the World’s Greatest County Fair Food Contest.
The judging was held on Sunday and the winner was Peach Cobbler Donuts from Bask in the Donuts. The winning food consists of fresh donuts topped with cinnamon sugar, sliced peaches, sweet caramel, buttery crumble, and a cloud of whipped cream.
The other finalist were Brown Sugar Bacon Twizzles from Side Door Concessions, LLC; Chicken Cheesesteaks from Jersey Jo's, Lily Fries from TnT Concessions; Loaded Mac 'N' Cheese Bowl from Stu's BBQ and Puerto Rican Beef Empanada from La Borinqua.
The annual People's Choice Contest is being held through Wednesday, September 16th, fairgoers can sample all six finalists and cast their vote online for their favorite. The People's Choice winner will be announced Thursday, September 17th, ahead of the lunch hour.
Today(Monday) is Veteran’s Day at the Clay County Fair. Admission is free for veterans and active-duty military.
The Veterans Day Parade will travel around the Fairgrounds at 10 a.m., followed by the Veterans Day Appreciation Program at 11 a.m. in the Events Center Ballroom. At 2 p.m., the Events Center Ballroom will host Glenn Henriksen’s Salute to Veterans, offering another opportunity to recognize and honor our nation's veterans.
