City of Fairmont Seeking Public Input on Potential Downtown Improvements

(Fairmont, MN)--The city of Fairmont is seeking input from residents on potential improvements to the downtown area.

The city is studying options for potential infrastructure improvements within the 8 block downtown area bound by Blue Earth Ave, Park St, 4th St, and Main St. Potential future infrastructure projects may include updating the sidewalks, crosswalks, lighting, vegetation, street furnishings, and possibly wayfinding and public art. Additional future projects may consider traffic flow changes, mixed-use housing infill, and flexible shared open space.

An online survey is open through September 11th. The survey takes about 5 minutes to complete and can be found through the city of Fairmont’s website or Facebook page.

A community workshop and open house will be held September 10th from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Southern Minnesota Educational Campus. Feedback from the survey and open house will help guide the city’s steering committee as it develops the plan. Cost estimates are expected in early October.
