(Estherville)--Iowa’s dove hunting season opens on Tuesday, September 1st and runs through November 29th. Iowa became the 42nd state to have a hunting season for mourning doves in 2011. KILR Outdoors Steve Weisman says between 10,000 and 14,000 hunters are expected this year.

Nearly 143,000 birds were harvested last year, a drop of 27 percent from 2024. Weisman made his comments on the Following the Great Outdoors program which can be heard every Friday at 10:30 am on KILR FM 95.9.
