(Spirit Lake)--A wetland restoration project is planned for this fall at the Welch Lake complex in Dickinson County. Chris La Rue, Wildlife Biologist with the Iowa Department of Natural Resources, says the Welch Lake complex protects West Lake Okoboji by filtering 16 percent of its watershed.
La Rue details the work that will be done this fall.
Welch Lake wetlands and prairies are one of the top pheasant and waterfowl hunting spots in Dickinson County. La Rue says it’s also home to many non-game birds.
La Rue says the restoration project should be completed by December.
