(Okoboji)--Fire caused heavy damage to a boat late Sunday morning at Mau Marine in Okoboji.
Arnolds Park-Okoboji Fire Chief Chris Yungbluth says the fire in a cabin cruiser was reported around 11:45 am. Yungbluth says when firefighters arrived on scene, Mau Marine employees had used fire extinguishers to put out most of the fire. He said firefighters did apply water to put out the rest of the smoldering fire. The boat was lifted out of the water to make sure the fire was completely extinguished.
The people on the boat were able to evacuate safely. One of the employees was checked on scene for smoke inhalation.
Yungbluth says the fire was likely caused by a mechanical malfunction.
Firefighters were on scene for about 60 minutes.
