(Spirit Lake)--The Dickinson County Sheriff’s Office is warning the public about a bond scam.
In a Facebook Post, the Sheriff’s Office says it has been made aware of scammers calling residents and claiming to be a “Sergeant” or a Bondsman, stating that a friend or family member is in custody and needs immediate payment for bond. The scammers request money to be sent electronically to them through PayPal, Venmo, CashApp, Apple Cash, etc.
The Dickinson County Sheriff's Office says it does not collect bond money electronically.
If you receive one of these calls hang up immediately and contact local law enforcement directly using a trusted number.
