FEMA Approves $3.4 Million in Funding to Acquire 25 Residential Homes in Spencer Impacted by 2024 Flooding

(Spencer)--The city of Spencer was recently notified that the Federal Emergency Management Agency has approved $3.4 million in funding to acquire 25 residential properties damaged by flooding in 2024. City Manager Kevin Robinson gave an update on the process at this week’s city council meeting.

Robinson says FEMA requires that the properties be turned into green space. He says property acquisitions should begin later this year.

The city of Spencer also has a separate buyout program. Robinson says the city attorney is currently reviewing the abstracts for 12 properties that have qualified for that program.
