(Estherville)—An extreme heat warning is in effect until 9 pm Tuesday night for the KILR listening area with heat index values above 100 for the next couple of days. Kathy Johnson with Emmet County Public Health says you should minimize your time at outdoors in these very hot conditions.
Johnson offers some advice on staying safe if you have to spend time outdoors.
She says several types of illnesses, including heat stroke and heat exhaustion, may occur due to prolonged exposure to the heat.
Johnson says someone overcome by the heat needs immediate medical attention.
She says it’s important to check on your elderly friends and relatives.
Highs are forecasted to be in upper 80’s to low 90’s for the rest of the week.
