(Spirit Lake)--Iowa’s gas tax isn't raising enough revenue to keep up with what's needed to build and maintain the state’s roads and bridges. Governor Kim Reynolds says it may be time to have regular increases in the gas tax that are tied to inflation. Area State Representative John Wills says increasing the gas tax was discussed during the 2026 Legislative Session.
Will says he would consider supporting a standalone gas tax increase.
He expects the issue to come up during the 2027 session.
