
(Estherville)--An Armstrong man was killed and another person injured in a fiery two vehicle accident Friday evening east of Estherville.
The Iowa State Patrol says the accident involving a semi and a pickup happened shortly after 6:40 pm on Highway 9 east of 410th Avenue
The patrol says a 1996 GMC pickup driven by 41-year-old John James Bumgart of Armstrong was traveling westbound on Highway 9 when it crossed the center line struck an eastbound 2020 Peterbilt semi driven by 50-year-old Karie Marie Eisma of Hawarden.
Following the collision, the pickup entered the north ditch and the semi entered the south ditch where it burst into flames and became fully engulfed. The Patrol says Bumgart, who was not wearing a seat belt, died at scene. Eisma was injured and transported by Estherville Ambulance to Avera Holy Family Hospital. The patrol says she was wearing a seat belt.
The Estherville Fire Department and Emmet County Sheriff’s Office also assisted at the scene.
