Details Released About Arrest of Burglary Suspect in Ft. Defiance State Park

(Estherville)--The Emmet County Sheriff’s has released more details about the arrest of a burglary suspect Monday morning at Ft. Defiance State Park.

           

Shortly after 8:50 am, the Emmet County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a male only wearing shorts that had entered vehicles that did not belong to him and was running around the campground in the Fort Defiance State Park. Upon arrival on scene, deputies found that the male had entered at least three unoccupied vehicles. A brief disturbance also took place with one of the vehicle owners that was camping. Deputies also found that the unknown male had taken off on foot into the wooded area of the park prior to their arrival.

 

As deputies and Estherville Police started searching the large area, additional assistance was requested to assist in finding this male. Additional resources were used to able to setup a perimeter. Additional personnel were searching the area on foot with assistance from drones and K9's. Around 10:35, the sheriff’s office received additional information about a male only wearing shorts that had been laying in a ditch and requested a ride from the reporting party. This allowed authorities to tighten the search area inside the park. During the search, provided a picture of this male was provided from a neighboring property owner.

 

Just before 11:30 am, the male ended up approaching law enforcement and taken into custody without incident. 28-year-old Dalton Burdorff was arrested and booked into the Emmet County Jail on the following charges: three counts of Burglary in the 3rd degree, trespass, providing false identification information, an Emmet County Arrest Warrant for failure to appear, on an original charge two counts of possession of a controlled substance.
