Details Released on Cement Truck Accident in Clay County

(Spencer)--Clay County authorities have released details on a cement truck accident late last week that sent the driver to the hospital.

According to a news release, just before 2:15 p.m. the Clay County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a single vehicle accident in the 2300 block of 280th Street involving a cement truck on fire. Upon arrival at the scene, the fire had been put out by the caller using a personal fire extinguisher. The driver of the 2016 Peterbuilt cement truck was identified as 43-year-old Heath Clause of Sioux Falls, SD.

Fostoria and Dickens Fire Departments responded and mechanically removed Clause from the vehicle and he was transported to the Spencer Hospital for treatment of minor injuries. Clause claims the full load of cement shifted due to windy conditions causing him to leave the roadway.

Damage to the truck, owned by M and C Trucking and Construction, is estimated at $80,000.

Clause will be charged with Failure to Maintain Control and Failure to use a Safety Belt.
