Emmet Co. Supervisors Approve 5 Year Road Construction Plan

(Estherville)--The Emmet County Board of Supervisors on Tuesday approved the county’s five year road construction program. Emmet County Engineer Walter Davis-Oeth says the program runs from Fiscal Year 2027 through Fiscal Year 2031.  Davis Oeth says three road projects are scheduled for 2027.

Davis-Oeth says a couple of bridge replacement projects are scheduled for 2028.

He says a single projec is scheduled for 2029.

The projects are paid for with a mix of federal, state and local tax dollars. Davis-Oeth says there are no projects scheduled for 2030 as the county needs a year to recoup funds.  A repaving project on A-20 west of N-26 to the county line is the lone project in 2031. The board also approved the secondary roads budget for the 2026-27 Fiscal Year.

In other business, the Supervisors set a public hearing date of May 12th at 9 am, on a proposed ordinance repealing the county’s current ordinance on regulating and restricting the use of land for hazardous liquid pipelines. The move was recommended by the Planning and Zoning Commission following state and federal court rulings finding similar county ordinances in Iowa are preempted by federal law.

The board also approved the appointment of Allison Fisher of the secondary roads department to serve as Emmet County Weed Commissioner. The weed commissioner’s wage of $6,000 per year paid over six months will be divided equally between Fisher and Dan Burton, also with the secondary roads department, who will serve as weed inspector starting with the May 2026 payroll.
