(Spirit Lake)--Gillnetting operations in the Iowa Great Lakes got off to a fast start and are already winding down. Kim Hawkins, DNR Fisheries Biologist and Manager of the Spirit Lake Fish Hatchery, says gillnetting for Walleye got underway on Friday.
She says the quality of the fish caught has been very good.
Hawkins says the gillnetting was expected to wrap-up Monday night.
She says the walleye will be released after they finish spawning.
Hawkins says crews come from all around the state to assist in the gillnetting in the Iowa Great Lakes.
