Family: Alex Jensen was born on September 13, 2002, in Estherville. Alex is the son of Jeff and JoAnna Jensen. Alex is the only child. One unique fact about Alex’s family is that both of his grandmothers work in the office of ELC high school. While there, they are able to keep close tabs on him throughout the day. Alex has been chosen to represent the character traits of wisdom and humility because despite of his many academic and athletic accomplishments, Alex is usually quietly going about his business each and every day. Alex is a student who works behind the scene to make his school and teams stronger. Alex is the type of teammate everyone wishes to have as he puts the group in front of himself.
Likes / Interests: Alex is sports crazy in terms of watching and playing. Alex’s favorite sport is baseball where he pitches and plays 3rd base for the Midgets. Alex also participates in football, track, and basketball. On top of that he enjoys going to the weight room to make himself and his team stronger. Alex’s personal goals in athletics include going to state as a team and never stop improving as an individual. Alex would enjoy playing baseball after high school if that opportunity arises. When not playing sports, Alex enjoys playing Xbox online with friends and just watching TV. Alex also enjoys going to a variety of activities with his family. Alex is a big MN Vikings fan has been to the new stadium and watched the Vikings play in the old Metrodome.
When not at school, Alex can be found helping all his family around the farm. Alex enjoys the farm because “I get to be outside and working with my family. My favorite job is doing the general chores; the job I hate doing the most is bailing hay when it is hot outside.” Working on the farm has taught Alex many life lessons to include “a good work ethic, but more importantly, how to solve problems. Many times the first thing you try does not work so you have to move on to the next option. I enjoy learning to fix things and that is important if you work on a farm.”
Alex was chosen to represent the character traits of “wisdom and humility.” He believes wisdom means “being smart and not making stupid decisions.” When it comes to humility Alex defines it as “being humble and putting others before yourself.” Alex was likely chosen because he is always helpful for others and tries to make good decisions every day in the parking lot. Alex believes that “the small decisions you make in life are as important as the big things sometimes. Taking the time to do the little things right is a sign of someone with wisdom. Putting no job beneath you is a sign of humility.”
When Alex was asked about his education so far at ELC and how it has shaped him as a person he stated, “ELC has helped me make sure I make set goals and do the right thing. ELC has given me many opportunities in sports and in the classroom to be successful. My education has helped me toward my goal of being an athletic trainer or physical therapist because ELC coaches and teachers also teach leadership and character along with the classwork I will need to succeed.
At ELC a couple of Alex’s favorite teachers have been Mrs. Thoreson and Ms. Brehmer because “Both of those teachers did fun things in their class to help us learn. They encouraged me to be successful by enjoying school.”
In the future Alex would like to attend Iowa State. Alex will pursue athletic training and or physical therapy.
When asked about Alex as a student, and person of character, ELC Science teacher Kris Turner stated, “Alex Jensen is a student who does not draw attention to himself; instead, he is there to help students if needed. I have never heard Alex speak unkindly of someone or brag about himself. Alex shows wisdom because he models what is true and right and applies that to his daily interactions with me and his classmates.”
The ELC School District, KILR, and the community of Estherville would like thank Alex Jensen for being a person of character and leadership!
